Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect

Welcome to No More Startup Myths

If you’re trying (or thinking) to build a B2C lifestyle microbusiness, you’ve come to the right place.

At No More Startup Myths, I hope to dispel some of the myths associated with starting  a business as a “first-timer”, by sharing heavily researched (supported by various best-selling books as reference), empirically proven (based on testing or experience) blog posts, and help bright, hard-working, young individuals aspiring to build a startup for the first time, to make their dreams come true.

I’m not here neither to attempt to reinvent the wheel, nor to pretend that I have all the answers. I just hope that the content I share on this blog (methods, tools and advice) will genuinely help you in your entrepreneurship journey.

Our motto is, ‘Pursue your dreams by being your own boss’… but make sure to to do that in a sensible (“without losing your shirt”) kind of way.

So, if you are interested in learning on how you can kick-start the process of building your own microbusiness ….

So, why the “No More Startup Myths” blog?

The answer is simple – because over here someone can find fluff-free “stuff” tailored to a very specific “audience” and a crystal-clear market niche.

Yes that right, this blog has a single purpose – to serve young aspiring (lifestyle) entrepreneurs. That’s all. Nothing else.

Lifestyle Microbusiness: Our definition

To me, a lifestyle mircobusiness is a business in which you are the sole-founder, based on a marketable (one that you can make money out of it) hobby/interest/activity that you’re particularly passionate about, with the potential to provide you with a comfortable living.

In other words, is a REAL business has been carefully designed to stay true to who you really are.

What a Lifestyle Microbusiness is NOT

1. A Lifestyle Micro-business is NOT passive

If you wish to create a passive income vehicle that can fund your “Bahamas-lifestyle” without any interest in being involved in the business, you should probably go and buy a lottery ticket…

Yes that’s right– burn this into your brain: There is no such thing as a passive lifestyle microbusiness. It’s a REAL business that you have to work your as$ off to establish, grow and ensure it remains sustainable.

2. A Lifestyle Micro-business does NOT happen overnight

You can’t just wake up one day, put on your “lifestyle cape” and start living the dream. Building a viable lifestyle business is no different than any other type of business – you have to put in a ton of time upfront and, as Ash Maurya would suggest, be willing to iterate from plan A to a plan that works because it’s quite unlikely to get it 100% right on the first try.

Of course, there will be others trying to convince you otherwise by selling you their “motivational fairytaling” but, since on this blog, we’re not into BS we defy the reckless ‘quit your job, jump ship and everything will be ok’ narrative and embrace a low-risk entrepreneurship model.

3. Lifestyle Micro-business is NOT about “being an artist”

Can you guess why most artists fail (miserably)?

Because they try to force “their gift” into the market instead of finding a project that has market potential and people are actually willing to spend money on (in other words, there is a commercial need).

So, the point I am trying to make is that NOT all passions can be monetized. A smart aspiring lifestyle entrepreneur needs to put the time upfront, figure out which one of his/her passions can be capitalized and which can not and then decide which will be “the one” their business will be build around.

Things may come to those who wait, but only the things left by those who hustle.

About me…

Hi, my name is Andreas (the geek on the right) and I am the founder of “No More Startup Myths”. I’m a 28-year-old online sidepreneur, digital marketing lead at Highflyers London, creator of HR Hard Talks, The Vertical Startup and The Business Idea Finder and author of The Aspiring Entrepreneur Entry Strategy.

And finally please read this carefully…
I don’t consider myself to be any kind of lifestyle business expert, I am just a guy that has been around this space for quite a while and aspires to, one day,  be “somebody”!

So, if you’re on board with the premise of this blog, I’d love to have you around BUT take my advice with a grain of salt – just because something works for me, doesn’t necessarily mean that’s a “universal formula”.

So, what do you think: are you in or out?
